Travel insurance for Taylor Swift's Eras Tour (Ratehub's Version)

Travelling for The Eras Tour? Shake off any worries by securing a comprehensive trip insurance policy today.

let's get started

So you’re counting down the days until you get to see Taylor Swift at The Eras Tour. Your flights have been booked. Your friendship bracelets have been strung. And you’ve memorized all the lyrics to the three-and-a-half-hour set list – plus the 31 new songs from The Tortured Poets Department in case she decides to change it up.

But no matter how ready for it you may be, complications can still arise. This is where travel insurance comes in.

Key takeaways on Eras Tour travel insurance

  1. If you don't have existing coverage, such as through your credit card, you should highly consider purchasing travel insurance when taking a trip for The Eras Tour. Common types of coverages on a policy include travel medical insurance, trip cancellation and interruption insurance, as well as baggage insurance.

  2. The more risk you and your trip present, the more expensive your travel insurance premium will be. For reference, a 22-year-old from Ontario can expect to pay about $35 for a 7-day London trip to attend The Eras Tour in August.

  3. If your show is cancelled (and you no longer want to travel), it's unlikely a standard trip cancellation policy will cover you for non-refundable expenses, such as hotels and airfare. Policies have strict requirements you need to meet to make a cancellation claim, and technically speaking, you can still visit your destination without making an Eras Tour stop.

  4. If you do need to cancel your trip (and you have a valid reason to make a claim), it's possible that your concert ticket can be considered a non-refundable expense, and therefore, be reimbursed by your travel insurance – just be aware of the coverage limits on your policy, considering the high price of Taylor Swift tickets. It may be a better idea to just sell your ticket to another Swiftie, instead.

Do I need travel insurance for The Eras Tour?

It’s always better to be safe than sorry – not only does travel insurance protect you financially, but it can also provide you with peace of mind. So if you’re travelling to a different country (or even a different province) to attend the tour, it’s a good idea to protect yourself ahead of time.

This is especially important considering the high cost of travel during tour dates because of the “Taylor Swift effect” – with flight and accommodation prices surging due to the high demand. Check to see if you have existing coverage first, such as through credit card insurance or group benefits insurance. And if you don’t (or it’s not enough), consider purchasing a travel insurance policy on the side.

Types of travel insurance for The Eras Tour

When it comes to travel insurance, there are three main types of coverages: travel medical insurance, trip cancellation and interruption insurance, and baggage insurance. Let’s take a look at how these can cover you when you’re travelling for the show.

Trip cancellation & interruption insurance – If your trip needs to be cancelled or interrupted due to an emergency (that’s covered under your policy), travel insurance can help pay for the various non-refundable expenses, such as flights and hotels. Examples of cancellation clauses include the death of a family member or a natural disaster hitting your destination.

Baggage insurance – Eras Tour outfits aren’t cheap. If your bejeweled dress, cowboy boots, and friendship bracelets get lost (or even delayed) while travelling, this type of coverage can help reimburse you for all your personal belongings. That way, you can pull together a last-minute solution without too much of an added cost.

Travel medical insurance – Healthcare can be extremely expensive abroad. In the event of a medical emergency, this coverage can pay for the various expenses involved – think ambulance services, hospital stays, diagnostic testing, and more.

While these coverages are often purchased separately, you can buy a comprehensive travel insurance package that includes all three. And if you’re travelling for more than one Eras Tour show – or for any other reason within the same year – you can look into purchasing a multi-trip insurance policy. These plans cover you for trips all year round, but there may be limits on how long a single trip can last.

How much does travel insurance for The Eras Tour cost?

The cost of travel insurance is dependent on a few factors which can include your age, health status, travel destination, trip cost, and trip duration. In general, the more risk you and your trip present, the more expensive your coverage will be. And of course, opting for more coverage and higher coverage limits will only bring up your premium.

Will travel insurance cover me if my Eras Tour show is cancelled?

Planning a trip for the sole reason of attending a concert is always a risk in the event the artist cancels or reschedules the show. And while Taylor Swift is known for her show-must-go-on reputation – with only one Eras Tour show being postponed thus far due to extreme temperatures in Rio – it’s still a valid concern for Swifties travelling from afar.

We saw this happen recently when The Jonas Brothers announced that the European leg of their tour would be postponed via (the infamous) TikTok – fans were enraged, not only due to the lack of apology but also because of the significant amount of money spent on travel plans.

Generally speaking, concert ticket providers are responsible for issuing refunds after a show is cancelled (or if a show is postponed and you can no longer attend), but this doesn’t extend to related expenses like airfare and hotel bills. And while trip cancellation insurance can cover these expenses, it’s unlikely your policy will allow you to claim the expenses due to a cancelled show.

Insurers have specific requirements you need to meet in order to claim – your emergency will need to fall under a risk stated in your policy (e.g. the death of an immediate family member). While a cancelled show may be an emergency to many fans, you could technically still take the trip even if you don’t stop by The Eras Tour.

One exception to this is if the show gets cancelled due to an event that’s also covered by your policy. For example, if a natural disaster prevents you from travelling to your destination while cancelling or postponing the show, your travel insurance policy may reimburse you for the non-refundable expenses. Be sure to review any terms and reach out to your provider ahead of time in case any clarification is needed.

Note: You can look into “cancel for any reason" travel insurance plans, but these policies tend to come with tight limitations. For instance, you may need to purchase the policy further in advance and file the cancellation claim within a specified time period. Plus, you may only receive reimbursement for a percentage of your pre-paid expenses.

Does travel insurance cover my Eras Tour tickets?

Let’s say you can no longer attend your show date, and you do have a valid claim for trip cancellation. You know you’re covered for all your travel expenses, but is the cost of your Eras Tour tickets also covered?

Since trip cancellation insurance covers you for non-refundable expenses, most policies can consider prepaid event tickets as one of these expenses. If you’re asked to include the total cost of your trip when purchasing your policy, just be sure to include the cost of your tickets within the amount.

Keep in mind that this is subject to a stated limit – and with resale Eras tickets costing thousands of dollars, your policy may very well not have enough coverage. In the sample policy above, for instance, trip cancellation coverage is capped at $2,500. The good news is that you likely won't have much trouble finding a Swiftie to purchase the ticket off your hands.

Note: If you’re looking for event ticket insurance, that’s a different product – you can purchase this through Ticketmaster (at the time of check-out or at least 30 days before the event) or from third-party providers.

The bottom line

The Eras Tour may very well be one of the best nights of your life, but let’s not ignore the possibility of complications arising. Now that you know all too well about travel insurance, be sure to get a free quote and secure your policy with us online today.
